| What's the matter with MONTANA? |
Forget Kansas... what's the matter with MONTANA? The same day a MT House panel kills a bill to decriminalize gay sex, a nationwide poll finds a majority of Americans support equal marriage rights. Talk about mixed messages...
Most of us agree homophobia - in and of itself - is a health hazard. Gay and lesbian youth and adults suffer physical harm, depression, and stress because our government, many "mainstream" religions, family members and coworkers have homophobic feelings about our lives and our families.
Even as polls show more acceptance than ever for equal marriage rights - as Don't Ask Don't Tell is being repealed and the White House has decides not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act because it violates the Constitution -- we continue to get mixed messages from federal and state legislatures, anti-equality organizations, socially conservative religious organizations, and other groups hell-bent on denying equal rights to the LGBT community.
Is it any wonder then that gay men and lesbians suffer from increased rates of depression and anxiety? That LGBT youth and the children of gay and lesbian parents are victims of verbal and physical bullying?
